Herman bought land at 600 North Center Street for $300.00, paid off the loan from the bank, then bought lumber at Johnny Smith's Lumber Yard to build a small house. April 14, l940, they moved into the house built by Herman. It was a house with a living room, bedroom, kitchen - later an addition onto the front included a new living room, the old one becoming a dining room, and middle bedroom. Then a bathroom was added. Much later, a room was added on to the living room to become the third bedroom. The first driveway came in on the right side of the house, later turning into a circular drive. Later, the north driveway was shut off and the drive came up the left side of the house ending at the garage/shop.
